Gangs and States Are Cousins

Both rule by the credible threat of violence. Both demand tribute. Both are defended by people who insist the alternative is worse. The reason we notice the street gang and not the other is scale and paperwork, not morality. An argument that only sees one of them has already given up on consistency.
